Years
in the making, One Old Dawg, Mostly True Bulldog Lore, gleans from the
pages of the blog, but also presents new content.
In
One Old Dawg, Mostly True Bulldog Lore, Jerry Varnado shares inspiring anecdotes of playing football in what have become historic
years—Head Coach Vince Dooley’s first three teams at the University of Georgia.
Jerry came to Georgia as a walk-on in 1962 and in 1964, ran onto the field as a
starter on Dooley’s inaugural team. By 1966, he would play first string
defensive end when Georgia won a Southeastern Conference Championship. At the
time, Defensive Line Coach Erskine Russell wrote in a letter that Jerry had
gotten “more milage with average ability than anybody I know.”
As
to the “mostly true” part of these stories, One Old Dawg is given to
embellishment, and he’s been spinning these stories so long, in a few cases,
he’s forgotten where fact leaves off and fiction begins.
Jerry
also shares spiritual insights as well about life after football— the
unexpected twist that led him to first a law career and the tragedy that turned
him toward decades of life in ministry. He includes what has become his very
best story.
In
One Old Dawg, Mostly True Bulldog Lore, you will find we are not limited
by our ability, but with determination, perseverance, and God’s help (even when
we don’t realize it), amazing things can happen.”
We’re
also excited to share that Loran Smith, broadcaster, columnist, and a favorite
of Bulldog fans, has written the Foreword.
Available here now, we’ll also be involved in local signings as well. We
